Logiciel Midas Civil: A Comprehensive Overview of Benchmarking Software Packages

The field of seismic modeling of unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings has become increasingly important in recent years, as it allows engineers to assess the vulnerability of such structures to earthquakes and develop effective mitigation strategies. One of the key challenges in this area is comparing the results obtained by different software packages and approaches, which can lead to a wide range of possible outcomes.

To address this issue, researchers have developed benchmark examples that showcase the capabilities of various software tools, including logiciel Midas Civil. These examples are designed to be increasingly complex, ranging from simple single-panel structures to 3D buildings, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of different modeling approaches and tools.

The main objective of this research is to provide a systematic comparison of results obtained by using several modeling approaches and software package tools on selected benchmark examples. This endeavor has been led by experts from various Italian universities and funded by the Italian Department of Civil Protection within the context of the ReLUIS projects.

In this paper, we present an overview of our research activity focused on benchmarking software packages for the modeling and seismic assessment through nonlinear static analyses of URM buildings using logiciel Midas Civil. Our results demonstrate that analysts have a range of choices when interpreting the response of an examined structure and transferring it into a model for assessment, which can lead to significant differences in the achievable outcomes.
